Get selected value of radio button list in javascript

Introduction:

In my previous article I have explained about Select Unselect all checkboxes in gridview. In this article I am going to explain the process of getting the value of a radiobutton list in javascript.

 

Explanation:

For explaining the process I have a radio button list with 5 listitems. I am calling GetRDBValue function in onclick event of the radio button list. Below is the aspx code.

    <asp:RadioButtonList ID="rbBannerType" runat="server" onclick="GetRDBValue();">

        <asp:ListItem Value="1">Option 1 </asp:ListItem>

        <asp:ListItem Value="2">Option 2</asp:ListItem>

        <asp:ListItem Value="3">Option 3</asp:ListItem>

        <asp:ListItem Value="4">Option 4</asp:ListItem>

        <asp:ListItem Value="6">Option 5</asp:ListItem>

    </asp:RadioButtonList>

</div>

The javascript function GetRDBValue  will check each and every item in the list and alerts the value of the selected radio button. Below is the javascript code.

    function GetRDBValue() {

        var radio = document.getElementsByName('<%=rbBannerType.UniqueID  %>');

        for (var i = 0; i < radio.length; i++) {

            if (radio[i].checked) {

                alert(radio[i].value);

            }
